Technology has burst into the coffee sector. Digitalisation is a fact that, among other things, improves productivity and efficiency, is enabling the development of new products and services and is favouring customer relations.
A second life for coffee grounds
As part of animal feed, specifically for cows and sheep, they have managed to reuse these coffee grounds at the Basque Azti Technological Institute, as part of the Ecoffeed programme. Through a “flash dryer” process, they have managed to break down the dregs, extracting fibres, fats and other biomolecules of great nutritional value for these animals. For the time being, industrial scale-up is planned in the Basque Country with the help of an investment group, before replicating it in other regions of Spain or in Europe.
